What is shadow flicker?
It is the shadow effect that wind turbines can produce if the conditions are favorable such as:
- Sun shining and 0% cloud cover.
- Must be located between observer and sun
- Object must be close enough to be in it’s shadow
Most towers are not built near housing areas and this has not been much of a problem.
The American Wind Energy Association says that is not a problem because at U.S latitudes the Sun’s angle is not very low in the sky
Computer programs exist to calculate the proper angle a wind tower should be installed.
