What is a Watt, a Megawatt, and a Kilowatt?

A watt is single measurable unit of electricity, an example would be a 100 watt light bulb. It takes a 100 watts to light that bulb up for one hour.

Watts(W) are the yardstick for measuring power.

Watts hours (WH) measures the total usage for a period of time.

A Kilowatt is 1000 watts.

A Megawatt (MW) is one million watts.

So one megawatt could power a 100 watt light bulb for 10,000 hours.

The two major wind farms located in Nolan County Texas, near the towns of Sweetwater and Roscoe, produce a combined 1531.5 megawatts

enough energy to light a 100 watt light bulb for 15,315,000 hours.

There are 8765.81278 Hours in a year

So that could keep one 100 watt light bulb lit for 1,747 years.

 Wow………..very impressive
